Being ‘Thin’ will not make you a Model anymore! Guess which is the perfect body now?

Thinspiration

“Thinspiration” New to this term? Bet won’t be new to the concept! The desire to be a model comes with a cliché in the fashion industry that you have to be THIN. Thin to an extent where you almost start living and feeding on air.

The fashion industry has a huge impact on the world market both on the economy as well as on the psychology. Just having those labels in your wardrobe is not enough; people who are buying those also yearn to fit in and look like the runway models.

But, what is the problem if models are skinny?

The unrealistic expectation is the problem. To have a body like the French Runway Models is more like pleading for anorexia. Yes, the ‘fashion’ body goal made several teenagers fall terribly sick all over the world.

France is known for its fashion and representation of style which was for a long time getting run-way in the wrong direction. More than 30,000 to 40,000 people in France every year suffer from anorexia. Among all of them, almost 90% are women.

And anorexia is not something nobody wants in their country; it is making people ‘unhealthy!’

2015 to Now….

In 2015, Politicians were extremely worried about the body inspiration set by the big labels by hiring models who are exceptionally thin. The bill got complete support from the Health Minister in France. He clearly stated that, the Global Fashion Standard set by France has a tremendous effect on the young generation’s psychology.

“A body so thin is not natural and is inaccessible. Hence, it is not welcomed anymore.” By January 2017, this came in action where anorexic body-beauty will not be present in the industry.

The same is being followed by Spain, Italy and Israel.

What do models have to do now?

All runway models have to have a body that checks the ‘healthy’ BMI (Body Mass Index) level. It should be more than 18 to 18.5 at least. Every model needs to get a medical checkup and health certificate from doctors who will confirm if the model’s body is healthy or not.

If they have a BMI less than 18, it will be a punishable offense. They can either land up in judicial custody for 6 months or pay a fine of 75,000 euros.

Also in photographs, most of the photographed bodies of models are photoshopped to make it look either smaller or larger in particular areas to set idealistic body goals. This was enough to kill people by forcing themselves to get into an impossible shape and size. From now, people who have ideally changed the photographs will have to clearly mention that the pictures are ‘retouched’.

All’s well that ends well. But, is the ending really well?

Let’s see what are the probable things that can go wrong –

  1. The models who are ‘so –skinny’ will not be able to do any show unless they gain proper body mass.
  2. An anorexic patient cannot eat more as their body will tend to reject food. The recovery process to come back in healthy shape will take quite some time.
  3. Fat gaining injection is another trending thing which is extremely dangerous for body.

“Teenagers are not depending on food and produce; rather cosmetics have taken over their mind. From anorexia to bulimia; it is all they eat from plate.”

Will the ‘role-model’ body industry change for good?
