Don’t deny that you didn’t see it. The social media flooded with pictures and roadside statues proudly flaunted their new attire. Bus stops, railway stations, even high-level corporate meetings; people actually carried towels outside their homes as a part of their dress code. Did the world go crazy? Or is it some new style statement you are unaware of? “Don’t Panic” as it was Towel Day.
Yes! 25th of May every year, as a tribute to late author Douglas Adams. In his book, ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’, he inspired people to openly carry a towel to show that it’s okay not to panic. Things started in 2001, when Adams passed away on 11 May. To keep the concept alive, people started boasting towels on 25th of the same month.
The whole idea may seem funny, but the purpose is actually quite serious. We take things too seriously and seeing people entering, draped in towel, will definitely ease things down. So, why not be the change yourself? Carry a towel every 25th May and spread the message – “Don’t Panic”.
